Hair is composed mainly of the protein keratin. Keratin refers to a family of fibrous structural protein.Keratin is the key structural component of hair. Nutritional deficiencies & specific protein deficiencies can contribute to increased hair shedding by weakening hair shafts that cause breakage to the hair and slow regrowth. . Principal nutrients that are involved include vitamin A, certain B vitamins, the vitamin biotin, vitamin C, copper, iron, zinc, protein, and water. Foods that are derived from animals are high in proteins and increases keratin production. Best sources include cod, shrimp and tuna. Other sources include halibut, salmon, turkey and beef.Potential sources of keratin include legumes, such as kidney beans and lentils. Other sources include nuts; seeds and whole grains. Vegetables do not contain a large amount of protein. However good choices include mustard, greens, spinach, cauliflower, soybean corn, oats, peas and peanut butter which are good sources of high protein.
